Isaiah announced the birth of Jesus about 725 BC
- He Wrote about the life of Jesus
- He Described the death of Jesus
- He Prophesied the coming kingdom of Jesus Christ
Isaiah revealed the many names of our Lord Jesus Christ. Isaiah 9:6
- Wonderful Counsellor
- Mighty God
- Everlasting Father
- Prince of Peace
Most birth announcements are after the birth of a child. But, Isaiah gave this announcement hundred of years before the birth of Christ.
And, why so many names were given in this announcement? Well, because many names were needed to describe this wonderful person called Jesus and reveal His personality.
“And He will be called Wonderful Councillor”
Jesus was a wonderful counsellor always available during His ministry.
- He was available to children and adults
- He was available to rich and poor
- He was available to all
As a counsellor He came with answers and brought hope to those who had no hope. No problem was too difficult for him to solve.
“He will be called …. Mighty God”
Isaiah prophesied that John the Baptist would come to prepare the way of the Lord.
“A voice of one calling: “In the desert prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.” Isaiah 40:3-5
Only the Mighty God can work such miracles in people.
In Luke 2:10-11 we read: But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.”
Zachariah (John the Baptist’s father) prophesied and said: “Because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.” Luke 1:78-79
Jesus called “The Light of the World”.
- Would give light to those in darkness.
- He would give light to those in the shadow of death. And,
- He would bring forgiveness and Salvation to the lost
He would be called “Everlasting Father”
The Everlasting Father Entered Time
Jesus said: “I have come downs from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of Him who sent me.” John 6:38
- The Everlasting Father made Himself subject to time.
- To offer eternal life to us who are subject to time.
- At birth, we begin to age, time passes quickly and we leave life much as we came.
But, by faith in Jesus Christ we receive eternal life. John 3:16
He would be called “Prince of Peace”
There are 3 Dimensions of Peace here:
- Peace with God
- The Peace of God
- Peace on earth
Peace with God:
“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1
Millions have sought peace with God, through religious rituals, good works and other means, in vain, because we can only find peace through faith in Jesus ….
Peace of God:
“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
The peace of God is dependent on our relationship with Him and passes all understanding.
Peace on Earth
“Peace on earth good will toward men.” Luke 2:14
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27
“Jesus came and stood among them and said: ‘Peace be with you.’” John 20:19
Do you long for Peace?
Christ will bring peace in your troubled heart.
And, someday He will bring peace to this troubled world.
